It's right around the corner you know!

Programming note - we've got preseason baseball today on WMVA at 1pm. Washington Nationals vs Houston.

Phillies beat the Nats yesterday 17-3. I thought football was over!

They pulled Guthrie before the 1st inning was over. He's sporting an ERA close to 150 I bet.

Some early thoughts on the season thus far...

The National League East is already shaping up to be the weakest division in baseball... again. Atlanta just stinks, Bartolo or no.

Cubs are on pace, but the Reds are RED HOT.

So far I'm really impressed with the Tigers and the Twins, the Angels, Astros, and Arizona, and throw the Mets in there too.

Yankees have won 5 straight and are now at 6-4 on the season. Good enough for 2nd in the AL East and 1.5 games back of Baltimore.

Yankees finished off a three game sweep of St. Louis with their 9-3 win Sunday night. Yanks improve to 8-4 on the season and have won 7 straight. Next up for New York will be a home series starting tonight against the Chicago White Sox.

I honestly dont gives 2 flips about baseball, but what the Nationals and Yankees did yesterday was 1st class. A moment of silence to honor the remembrance of the April 16, 2007 tragedy at Virginia Tech. For those why may not remember, the Yankees also came to English Field to play a game with the Hokies baseball squad in 2007 as well.

I remember that. First class all the way. Of course, that was the "English Field" in Blacksburg. I still think of "Hooker Field" as "English Field."

So… this year’s season has just passed the 1/5 mark. Lots of baseball left, but if 20 percent of the games is any indicator of the next 80% I’d put the Astros, Twins, and Yankees in the playoff picture with the Orioles picking up with wild card. Personally, that would make a great American League playoff picture. The National League is beyond a guess for sure… the Nats are my pick for the East, Central could go to anyone but the Pirates while the West is a toss up between the Rocks, the Dodgers, and the D-backs. Two observations at this point… the Astros have taken over the Nats as the team with the best record in baseball for 2017 and even though the defending World Series Champs (Cubbies) are in next to last place, they are only 2.5 games out. They are so deep I can’t help believe they will sift to the top of their division by game 162 and make a run for the whole thing again.

Nats take on the Phillies in a double header today. Join the action live from Nationals Park on WMVA-AM1450. Coverage starts at 1:00 PM, first pitch at 1:35 PM.

Some really good baseball going on these days. Yesterday's nightcap between the Nats and the Phillies was just classic. Nats lead by 1 most of the game, Phillies score 2 in the 8th and go up by 1, Nats answer back with another 2 and win it by 1. I reduced my cable package with Comcast and no longer get MASN. I sat down next to the radio yesterday evening and didn't get up until the game was over. Lots of fun.

cubs biggest mistake was letting fowler go to the cards.i would have loved for them to keep everybody from last season, but they let all of them leave or traded.way they are playing, they will be lucky to be the wildcard team.hard to believe that 50 games into the season, the rockies and the astros have the league,s 2 best records. .

They could still pull it together, but for sure something's got to change.
