Most of my adult life I try to take the month of November off from my habits... whatever they may be. Might sound silly, but its what I do. This year I will be refraining from my daily ritual of visiting and commenting on this site, and other social media. Not being one to quit cold turkey, I usually take the last week of October to start practicing the habit of not practicing my habits. Then, on Nov. 1 I'm all in. No worries, just a break for myself. I'll be back in December.

Keep the boards alive guys!

lol lazebone. I can relate with pretty much everything you said.

Dodgers were the Dodgers tonight. Unless the Astros have mo' betta' Yankee shenanigans up they sleeve it's a Dodgers WS in 4. Can't nobody touch what they dished out tonight.

Well, part of the purpose of this was to pick a topic I thought all participating members would contribute. Guess that's 5. Our board shows 61 registered.

My first question which you guys have sort of begun... is name the top 3 things you use Facebook for, or find it of value to you. In order of importance. I'll start.

1) Keep up with family (this was my original reason for signing up... kids moved away from home and they were posting on Facebook. They no longer use facebook or anything else I can tell. It's as if social media is old to them now)

2) Keep my media goings on in front of as many eyes as possible (self-promotion)

3) Try to keep a finger on the pulse of what's going on in the community (back in the day it was the "dirt on the street").

Your turn...

Just announced,Dusty Baker out as Nats manager next season.

Yeah, lotta upset folks on that call. DB was much loved and admired, but I've said it for the entire time he was there - he just lacked the intensity necessary to push the team into a real contender. Some say the ownership and upper management is dysfunctional and arrogant. I just say as much as DB was a fine man, he wasn't going to take the Nats to a World Series. Not in him.

Nats gone. Cubs gone. Yankees are looking like they might get to face the Dodgers.

I've got some questions, but this may be the wrong crowd, I don't know.

For starters... How many of our martinsvillechat faithful are facebook users? Yay or nay?

I saw this somewhere else on a meteorological site and they explained it very well. Due to ice crystal formations. One of the natures incredible wonders.

Well, the Cubs are 1 game away from going home and the Astros and the Yankees are now tied. I don't think anyone would disagree that this will be the Dodger's year.

Knick-knack paddywhack, give the dog a bone.

Although I'm hopeful the subsidies are restored for two years, this does not solve the problem. It only makes the problem go away for a brief time.

I get that it's natural for people not to support or even be against something that doesn't affect them. It's a natural, selfish part of our human nature. In the past few weeks, I've pressed those I debate with who are so ardently against the ACA if they were affected by it. So far, 100 percent of those that answered my question said they were not. Why should someone with a car care that I don't have one? Why should someone who has healthcare care if I don't? If someone has food to eat, why should they care if I don't?

Two questions:

1) Who controls the white areas?

2) Are any of the forces noted on the same side of anything or do they all fight everyone else?

Ok, this seems like an easy question that begs to be answered. If the entire Congress could pass the bill with NO dissenting votes they were either totally deficient in knowledge of reality or everyone on both sides of the aisle were bought out by the drug industry. Which is it? And... what about Trump? Was he naive as to who is named drug czar really was or was Marino really what he wanted? Trump's still calling him a "really good guy." I don't get it. What's Trump's motive?
